Dark brown with ruby tints and a small mocha head. Fetching aroma of dark malt, cocoa, molasses, roasted hazelnut, and a hint of licorice. The body is lighter than most “authentic” (i.e. from Eastern Europe) versions of the style I’ve tried, but still ample enough to be satisfying. Flavour is chock full of dark dried fruit (raisins, prunes) and dark caramel, a bit of chocolate, and lingering licorice notes melding with the pine-accented hops in the finish. A lovely cold weather beer.
